Publish Data
Before publishing your data, make sure you have published your project dataverse. Navigate to your main project dataverse and click ‘Publish’ in the upper right of the dataverse page.
When you publish your data in UNC Dataverse, the Dataverse platform will register the persistent identifier (DOI) for your record(s). It will also include the version number within the data citation and will start tracking the version history of your dataset record. It is important to thoroughly review your dataset record for quality and completeness before publishing. This ensures that you are sharing the highest quality materials for public use and will also keep you from making a bunch of version changes in a short time frame due to minor errors like typos or missing metadata.
If you do have errors or are missing files, do not worry. You can still go into your record and make edits as needed.
Once you’ve reviewed your dataset record(s) and are ready to publish, click the ‘Publish Dataset’ button on the upper right of the dataset record. A pop-up will appear asking if you are ready to publish.
All published records in UNC Dataverse must remain published. If you erroneously share data that is in violation of UNC Dataverse Terms of Use, please see our section on Deaccessioning Datasets for guidance.
After clicking on ‘Publish Dataset’, UNC Dataverse will register your DOI, and your draft will update to be Version 1.0.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully published your first dataset within UNC Dataverse.
