DMPTool provides custom templates specific to funder requirements that offer guidance and sample language to assist researchers in writing a robust, compliant, and feasible data management and sharing plan. Additional guidance can be generated and enabled at an institution to point to local resources and services related to data management and sharing needs.

Why Use the DMPTool?

Writing a data management and sharing plan requires adherence to the funding agency’s requirements, which can sometimes be located on multiple sections of a website or PDF. DMPTool simplifies the process by providing a funder-specific template with all of the required components in a straightforward, easy-to-review text editor. For each required component, DMPTool highlights the funder-provided instructions, offers prompts to help you think through your response, and provides example language and fill-in-the-blank text to guide your writing process.

By using DMPTool, you are ensuring that you have addressed each required component of your funding agency’s data management and sharing policy and generated a robust plan to include alongside your proposal submission.

How to Get Started with DMPTool

DMPTool is available to all UNC researchers. To get started, simply login using UNC’s single sign-on (SSO) option by entering your UNC email address and following the prompts to sign in with your ONYEN.

Once logged in you can browse DMPTool and create your first plan.

DMPTool Public Plans

DMPTool users can share their finalized data management and sharing plan for public view.
